Amidst high expectations and anticipation, the specifications and price of the Motorola Xoom 2 have finally been revealed, thus killing all the rumors and speculations floating around all over the tech streets involving the device.
The much awaited Xoom successor has been already projected by many as the next hot thing in the global tablet market, primarily dominated by Apple Inc.’s iPad 2.
The official price of the Motorola Xoom 2 has been announced by the company at £380- approximately £20 less than where the 16 GB, Wi Fi variant of the main rival iPad 2 stands in the market in terms of price.
As expected, the reduced price of the Motorola Xoom 2 in comparison to its older sibling Xoom has been taken on a rather high note from the fanboys all over the world. The Motorola Xoom, though managed to establish itself as a successful product in the Apple dominated tablet market, was a little over priced at £450-- something that must have repulsed a huge proportion of potential purchasers from all over the world.
Motorola, no doubt understood the price-issue associated with the product line, and took the adequate measure before it was too late by making available the new device at a cheaper price than the iPad 2.
The Xoom 2 is powered by a sophisticated 1.2 GHz dual core processor, and boasts off a 10.1 inch impressive display, guarded by a Gorilla glass just like its predecessor. The device also features a 5 megapixel camera at the rear, as well as a standard 1.3 megapixel camera in the front for skype calling/video chatting purposes.
The device with an ultra slim body, measuring only 8.8 mm in thickness comes equipped with a decent 1 GB RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage. The battery life, as claimed by the company, is also pretty impressive at somewhere around 10 hours under normal circumstances.
However, there is one problem-- the device runs on the Android 3.2 Gingerbread version, and not on the brand new Ice Cream Sandwich platform as expected by many. A handful of fans all over the world were looking forward to see the Motorola Xoom 2 running the latest version of the Android operating system, especially after considering how Google and Motorola are now parts of the same entity. The search giant purchased Motorola Mobility over a couple of months back for $11 billion.
