Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer and the company that leads the Indian four wheeler market in terms of market share, has raised its prices of high end cars by Rs 5,000-10,000. The move is taken owing to the high input prices and big movement of foreign currency that has greatly affected the imported prices of components. The price rise will take effect from January 28.
The recently launched ‘A Star’ will be costlier by Rs 10,000 while a price rise of Rs 9,000 is initiated on all the variants of SX4 Sedan. The price of Swift LXi (Petrol) has been hiked by Rs 5,000. The higher variants of Swift- VXi and ZXi, and also the diesel version, will now cost Rs 6,000 more. For Swift DZire (both petrol and diesel models), the prices are raised by Rs 7,000.
However, no changes have been made in the prices of cars like Maruti 800, Omni, Alto, WagonR, Versa and Zen Estilo. After this move, other companies like Hyundai Motors, Honda and Ford Motors can also hike its prices in the near future.
