Small farmers of Gujarat have an opportunity to get linked to the global supply chains in the sectors of retail and agriculture.
The decision came during the Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit, where an investment of about Rs.35000 crore was decided for to be put in the agribusiness and food processing sector.
In addition to extending connections to national and international markets, this will generate employment for about 3.8 lakh people.
Among the several projects, the largest is Rs.9800 crore integrated food park, which will provide employment to about 5000 people. Another investment of Rs.2000 crore will be used in setting up a bio-economic industrial zone.
An integrated agro park is also being planned, which will be a platform for immediate interaction between farmer and customer. This will cost about Rs.9000 crore.
Besides these, two mega food parks are scheduled to be set up in DMIC (Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor) in Patan region of North Gujarat. Fisheries parks have also been planned for.
Other areas like aquaculture; mushroom growing and processing; ice-cream centres; bio-mass processing and onion drying have also been slated for.
