Essar’s outsourcing arm, Aegis is believed to bid for Satyam’s BPO. The firm is interested in owning it due to Satyam’s presence in international markets and a number of sectors like banking, telecom and financial services.
Aegis has bought a number of companies, total number standing at 11, within a period of last four years.
The information was confirmed by one of the Aegis’s top executives. Nipuna Services, as was Satyam BPO formerly called, employs about 3500 to 4000 people and serves a number of known brands in areas of Telecom (Verizon and Bellsouth); Drugmaker (GlaxoSmithKline) and Construction Equipment (caterpillar).
The BPO, which functions from Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, reported a revenue collection of Rs.55.6 crore in quarter ended September 2008, which is a drop of 8.65% from the previous period. Aegis, on the other hand, has been quite robust with revenues of $450 million. It employs about 30,000 employees from 31 locations.
