Even after rescheduling of the auctioning for auctioning of 3G spectrum on 30 Jan, yet another delay has come in its way. The reason is the decision of DoT (Department of Telecom) to have Trai’s legal opinion on Finance Ministry’s suggestion of doubling the reserve price.
Originally, the process of auctioning the spectrum- radio frequencies that do the wireless communication was to take place on 16th of Jan.
DoT’s website informed that the schedule of the postponed job would be announced shortly, after the cabinet’s take on 3G policy is finalized. For this, DoT took its legal advisor’s opinion on as to whether a change in the reserve policy requires approval on regulator’s part. After this is done, it will be presented to the economic affairs cabinet committee.
The operators, both from the GSM and CDMA technology sector however are not complaining about the continue delay. They have been trying to get the task delayed as the cash-flow conditions are not favourable and the market for 3 G services is a restricted one.
