The airlines are coming back to your door with a zero basic fare deal once again to give some upward shift to their businesses. An online search result for a Saturday evening Mumbai to Delhi flight showed a GoAir ticket priced at Rs 0 which means basic fare.
But actually the total cost of the air ticket after including taxes and fuel surcharge would approximately comes out to be Rs 3,112, which is still much higher when compared with the prices of Mumbai-Delhi ticked two to three years back. In December 2007, when aviation turbine fuel prices were soaring high, a Mumbai to Delhi cheap flight would only cost you Rs 1850.
Even today, the fuel surcharge component for Mumbai-Delhi flight has remained intact at Rs 2700, and despite the introduction of Zero basic fare scheme, the total cost would not fall below Rs 2900. Other Airlines such as IndiGo is also offering Rs 0 basic fare for Mumbai-Delhi, Mumbai-Bangalore and for other destinations. SpiceJet is offering Rs 1 basic far;, Kingfisher Red and JetLite have also slashed it to Rs 9 basic fare.
