Air India, the leading airlines carrier of India, today announced the cut in the domestic airfares following a continuous sheer decline in fuel prices in the global oil market. The airline has initiated this fare cut by decreasing the fuel surcharge.
The airline has cut basic fares ranging from 35 percent to 82 percent on 19 domestic routes. The fare cut has become effective from today, 1500 hours onwards. The maximum fare cut of 82 percent was initiated on Chennai-Bangalore route, while the minimum reduction of 35 percent was on Mumbai-Kolkata route.
The new basic fare for a travel between Delhi and Mumbai would be now 49 percent lower than earlier. These fare cuts came a day after private air carrier, Jet Airways slashed its airfares upto 40 percent. Kingfisher Airlines has also announced fare reduction but is yet to decide the quantum of the cut.
