Giving a sigh of relief to the employees of its Indian division, the Japan based Sony Electronics made an announcement on Wednesday that it has no layoff plan for Indian unit as it is considering strong business growth across the country. Sony has recently announced a layoff plan of 16,000 jobs in its various divisions around the world.
The company is reviewing its business units in each country for the said job cut plan in which around 8,000 full-time employees and another 8,000 temporary staff members are to be sacked.
According to Managing Director of Sony India, Masaru Tamagawa, “based on the future expectations of electronic business and current economic environment, the company is enacting several measures like reducing the fixed cost and headcount at the macro level”. But the Indian business unit is unlikely to come under this cost saving strategy of Sony Electronics.
