Tata Motors, after taking a controversial but image worthy exit from Singur, West Bengal following farmer protests, is now considering the plans to set up a permanent division at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand, for the production of “Rupee One Lakh Car-Nano”.

The interim production of the world’s cheapest car Nano has already been started from the Pantnagar site which was used for producing mini truck ACE by Tata Motors. It is not yet clarified by Tata Officials that a new unit would by set up or the interim production unit would be converted into a permanent facility.

Tata Motors have already decided to set up the mother facility of Tata Nano at Sanand in Gujarat and Narendra Modi has welcomed this decision whole heartedly and promised to provide all possible amenities to the company. The Sanand plant in Gujarat will initially produce around 2.5 lakh cars yearly but the capacity can later on be expanded to 5 lakh cars.

The State Cabinet has already given its consent to Tata Motors to provide lease rent concession for thousand acres of land at a minimal rate of Rupee one per square meter in Pantnagar. Normally a rate of Rupees 5 per square meter is charged as lease rent from the industries. Through this approval Tata Motors would get a concession of 1.5 crore per year in lease rents.
