Environment Friendly- The New Tata Mantra

Tata Motors, after adding Land Rover and Jaguar under its wings, is now targeting the environment friendly space with a view to expand its portfolio. Moving forward in the green space would help give potential benefits to this already image conscious brand.

Tata Motors has recently acquired Norway based battery maker entity, Miljo, for a mere price of Rs 9 crore and is setting up a new factory for servicing electricity-run cars and plans to make an investment of Rs 30 crore for the same. The Head of Tata Motors European Technical Centre, Clive Hickman said,”the company with a view to expand its operations has decided to establish a new battery plant”.

The key areas mentioned by Hickman that the company is focusing its attention to include advanced electronic technology, hybrid vehicle technology, battery technology, future design technology and styling. And presently the company is moving up with future design and hybrid car technologies.

Tata Motors have plans to launch its green car, the Electric Indica, in the European market in the next year. The company is presently involved in working out the electric versions of its mini-truck Tata ACE and the much hyped Tata Nano that made its first public appearance in the Delhi Auto Expo, 2008.
