The power and automation bellwether, ABB India, has won orders worth Rs. 550 million to build electrical infrastructure for revamping Kolkata airport.
According to the contract, ABB will offer complete power supply for the airport, and the company was selected by Italian-Thai Development Public Company and ITD Cementation, the companies behind the modernisation project.
The contract would require ABB to offer crucial electrical infrastructure as well as control systems to make ensure seamless power supply for the airport.
This could be achieved by integration of various technologies, such as low-voltage switchgears, busducts, power backup, power and distribution transformers, capacitor panels, and automatic source transfer switches, the company notified in a release.
In addition to the aforementioned technologies, the scope of the project would also include complete system engineering, installation, supply, testing, complete project management including commissioning.
It is expected that the new passenger terminal, which is being constructed over an area of 180,000 sq. metres, will handle as many as 20 million commuters in a year, almost four times of its existing capacity.
